Informational Interview
Now that most applications are being posted to online platforms like LinkedIn, it’s easy to become a candidate whose resume or cover letter gets lost in the mix. So, ahead of or even after submitting your initial materials, we highly recommend doing your research and figuring out if you have any connections to the company you’re applying to. This may look like alumni, a family friend, a friend’s friend, or any “second-degree” connection you have to the source. No matter who you find, most everyone is willing to engage in a quick coffee chat to teach you more about their role and the company!
Building Connections and Getting Your “Foot-in-the-Door”
After your informational interview concludes, we strongly believe in creating that chain reaction and seeking out new contacts from your conversation. Without pushing or putting pressure on the person your speaking to, we encourage you to try and broaden your knowledge by asking to connect to additional individuals, teammates, or coordinators that could help you learn more! Most all employees are excited about the prospect of a new employee, and above all are willing to help. So don’t be afraid to take the conversation one step further and expand your new network!
